Testimony Tuesday

Ricky and Amy Board family Church: Christ Fellowship Church, Fort Worth, TX Our vision for our family has always included adoption.  We spent six weeks in Thailand in the summer of 2013 for a practicum learning experience for Amy’s school program and to learn from and support missionaries from our church who live in Northern Thailand.  While there, we learned about the orphan situation in Thailand and experienced the beauty of adoption through the missionary family from our church, which has adopted...

Testimony Tuesday

Tim and Julie Bajema family Children: Madyson (8), Adriel (5), Aliya (4), Cole (6 weeks) Church: Bridge of Hope, Sioux Center, Iowa Our adoption journey began long before we filled out any paperwork. We helped to start a non-profit organization that works with a church, school and orphanage in Liberia, Africa. Over the several years of serving our friends in Liberia and hearing the stories of the orphans, God also continued to place orphans from the US in our lives, those in foster...

Ordained Stories

Our days were ordained for us before one of them came into existence according to Psalm 139. We don’t determine our families, our genetics, our in utero care, or our early stories. We are not self aware enough or world aware enough as young children to make choices that are wise and good in the long road for us. ...

Prayers for students–and our kids!

Yesterday was the Meet the Teacher day for my twins–who are (sniffle sniffle) starting Kindergarten! Among the other reasons I couldn’t help but tear up throughout the day, was this prayer which was hanging behind their teacher’s desk. It was such an encouragement and reminder to me for how we should be in a posture of prayer and trust before the Lord as school gets underway. Yet, it was also a reminder not only for how to regard students in a classroom...

Souls of Men

The most amazing gift we are given in Christ is living forever with Him.  It seems the older I get the harder it is to have child-like faith “that knows that it knows” the unseen spiritual reality is as real as the flesh I can touch.  I believe with all my heart that I will indeed meet my maker (John 12: 1-3) and He will make all things new, establishing His perfect Kingdom here on this Earth (Revelation 21:1-4). However,...

Expressing Emotion

Emotions can be complicated! Especially when they start all mixing together. I have found with our son that he picked up on English, conversationally, within a few months of immersion.  I have also found during the past years since then, that there is more to expressing yourself than just conversational language.  The language of interpreting and articulating your emotions is much different and seemingly, takes years to become fluent in. Heck, I’m not sure I am fluent in expressing my feelings!  Now throw in the mix a...

Equipped for “The Hard”

If I received a dollar for every person that has said to me “I could never do foster care because I could never give the child back,” we could probably fund our entire private adoption. ...

Declaring God’s story

My families adoption journey has been my husband and mine’s decision that was birthed out of a love for God and the unwanted orphans of the world. We have chosen adoption over biological children because we feel that is what the Lord has asked of us and it is a gift we have joyfully received. However, many people are given this gift of adoption without it being their first choice.  I wanted to share a short video testimony of a...

Cookies for Congo!

In the four years our family has been in the adoption process, we have prayed that the Lord would work in our children’s hearts to teach them about what it means to love others, to care for orphans, to welcome new siblings into our home. Adoption is a part of our daily life and, as our now-five-year-old twins were just 15 months old when we began the process, they truly have never known a time when we haven’t been preparing...
