The most amazing gift we are given in Christ is living forever with Him.  It seems the older I get the harder it is to have child-like faith “that knows that it knows” the unseen spiritual reality is as real as the flesh I can touch.  I believe with all my heart that I will indeed meet my maker (John 12: 1-3) and He will make all things new, establishing His perfect Kingdom here on this Earth (Revelation 21:1-4). However, as I daydream about this my doubts are ever present.  I have been digging into God’s word to try and get a better grasp of Eternal life.  Reflecting on Heaven, being with God, brings up the healthy tension we as Christ followers need to live in. That is, living in light of eternity but living faithfully and fully in the moments He has given us here and now.  You see, as I think about the only things that last for eternity; God, the Word of God, and the souls of men, it seems that there is so much other stuff besides those three things occupies my time.  As a mom of 3 young children there are a lot of activities ( raising children, maintaining the home, self care, etc) that at first glance don’t seem to involve eternity.  Yet that is not true.  My life as a mom and my family choosing to be obedient in adoption has ripple effects in eternity.  Caring for orphans, children and establishing a family life that reflects God’s Glory is all part of God’s plan of redemption.  I need not feel like it is living in the here and now OR living in light of eternity. For as a Christ follower empowered by His spirit we can do both at the same time (Galatians 5).
