Shepherding a child’s heart

I recently read an older parenting book titled, Shepherding a Child’s Heart, by Tedd Tripp.  I am not really big into reading parenting books and yet from time to time they have been helpful in getting me to think through how my husband and I are parenting. Though, I don’t agree with every idea or perspective in this book, I appreciate the way it gets me to think critically about the how and why’s to the way...

Nurturing doesn’t come easily

My husband and I recently attended an “Empower to Connect” conference.  It was a great 2-day refresher, relearning  the Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) approach to our parenting that we both appreciate and need.  So tonight, my adopted daughter had a challenging time.  ...

Summer’s Coming?

Ah, May.  How I love your fresh spring breezes (here more often gale force winds, but let’s ignore that), sunshine, flowering trees, and the smell of freshly mowed grass.  Ahhh….   Not to mention enjoying soccer games, track meets, concerts and extra school events…   Ok, I DO enjoy those.  But they tend to get a bit out of hand in May. ...

Spring Has Sprung!

I love spring.  It has always been my favorite time of year.  I just love to go from winter to the melting of snow and then see the grass get green again and the trees budding.  My favorite sport has always been softball … another reason to love spring.  ...

peace

on my personal blog, I’ve been writing this week about the fruit of the spirit….and today’s fruit is Peace.     Peace is hard to attain most days.  The tyranny of the urgent, or realistic fears and frustrations pop up all day long and are at war with my fight for peace and assurance of God’s provision in my life.  Still, He calls us to peace.  Not a false sense of assurance that everything will be ok because lots of days its...

Foster care is orphan care

Yesterday was Easter. It was a beautiful day! My family and I attended Easter services at a church plant in a town near us. The first thing our eight year old said when we walked into church was, “Why is everyone so happy?”  Indeed, everyone was happy! I loved seeing happy families enter church with their little ones dressed for Easter.  We met an old friend of mine who had three foster children in tow. All three were dressed in...

Photo Album Flop

I was hoping to share something with you that related to Good Friday today but each time I was thinking about writing my blog entry I kept coming back to the photo album.  ...

His eye is on the sparrow

Luke 12: “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.”   Two years ago, my husband unexpectedly lost his job and our family was in limbo for several months while we transitioned. It was a time of faith in the midst of fear; trust in the midst of anxiety. One of the everyday miracles that was an...
