Feel like Christmas

Yesterday felt like Christmas to me.  The snow fell.  I went to visit a friend.  Twice!  My youngest son needed snow pants so I went to Walmart and got him a whole new set, and some new socks and a warm outfit.  (It’s his birthday tomorrow, too.)  We ordered pizza and ate in the living room in front of the fire place watching a movie.   ...

My Deliverer

Wow, what a week it has been. I have been thinking over the past week about what God has been speaking to my heart and I have kept coming back over and over to the need for us to acknowledge that God is our Deliverer! ...

Contentment

Today I want to take a moment to throw out a question that as parents or people hoping to be parents we ought to be wrestling with often: Do we see our children as a means to an end? Are we looking for contentment from our children’s behavior, performances in school, their social scene, their dreams, their spiritual journeys?  Do we think our children can provide contentment for us? I am thinking about this because my visionary gifted writer of a husband wrote a...

fear and hair and being brave

2 months ago I wrote a blog either here or on my personal blog (I cannot remember which)  about my fears as a white mom and dealing with hair for my black daughter.  This is an ongoing struggle.  My child is beautiful and lovely….but her hair is very hard to maintain, and fix, and style.  My child also struggles with lots of sensory issues so the smell of hair products, the pulling and tugging, the sitting, etc are all an...

Richa

I have tried to write a post about this child more than once.  I have written it one hundred times in my head…..one thousand times in my heart.  Today I read the story of how this child, named Richa, became a daughter to these parents.  I have waited a very long time to read this blog.  If you want to read it, let me know.  Richa is a child who was born in India.  She was among the first to...

What We Remember

My oldest daughter and I were talking a few weeks ago and our conversation had me thinking of a trip we took with her and her sister years ago to Virginia. I asked her if she remembered the trip and she could only produce one memory. She seemed to think fondly of a city and loud construction going on while we explored. I was struck by her memory, and it’s had me thinking about what we remember. My 10 year...

Jason and Jennie Salazar Children: Jackson (17), Cameron (15), Josie (8), Diego (4) Church: James River Church, Ozark, MO Our adoption journey began in May of 2012.  This is when we first felt God lead us to adopt for a 2nd time.  Our first adoption was from Haiti in 2010 and we saw God work a miracle in our daughter’s life. This opened our eyes to the great need for orphan care in Haiti and showed us that we have been given the...

stained carpet

This week I met with a younger friend to catch up and pray.  I guess I am her “mentor” because that is what she asked me to be, but for me, she is just my friend.  We meet regularly and talk and I offer advice on how to grown in wisdom because this is one of her goals.  I encourage her in her dreams.  I care for her.  She knows the Lord intimately, and it is so much fun to...
