Like most parents adopting from DRC, our journey has been (and continues to be) a FIGHT to bring our children home. Over the past year, we have advocated, lobbied, asserted, challenged, called up, charged, confronted, pressed, and prayed and prayed and prayed for our boys. When bureaucratic processes would otherwise proceed with passivity, we have been confronted with the question of if our fight for our boys is contradictory to our resting in the Lord’s will, timing, and peace.
If I am being honest, “Peace” is not what I feel most days. I strategize, hypothesize, plan, get fired up, get discouraged, worry, wonder, and pray, and it takes a true intentionality to recenter on Christ’s peace and the promise he has for me and my family. And yet, I believe that throughout Scripture, he nonetheless calls us to action:
James 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
Psalm 119:60 I hasten and do not delay to keep your commandments.
2 Timothy 1:7 For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
For this particular time in life, while there are many aspects of our family’s fight that are tainted by our sinful nature, the Lord has called us to fight diligently and unceasingly for our boys, to bring them home to us, their forever family.
