We are in our third adoption, and so tonight we are having a fundraiser. Later this spring, we will likely have another fundraiser. We have been blessed with grants from beautiful, Godly people like those in Katelyn’s Fund and other organizations who have come along side us in support of this costly journey. Yes, adoption is expensive.
As we have seen God provide for us in each of our adoptions, I have had a few people indicate that they thought international adoption is so expensive due to corruption. To that, I would agree with a loud, clear, YES! Some people might think I mean this corruption is due to other countries expecting bribes and money from desperate families who will pay them. It is thought these countries are taking advantage of their children and some people are making a lot of money in the process, Although this may be true in a very few, isolated cases it is not the corruption to which I am referring. (From our experiences, more of the funds required for adoption go to agencies and organizations within the US rather than to the adoptee’s country.)
Adoption itself does exist as a result of corruption In the Garden of Eden in the original world that our loving Father God created, adoption would not have existed. Families would be intact with mothers and fathers and children, no pain or trauma. When Adam and Eve chose to go a way other than God’s, disobeying Him, and sin entered the world, all was corrupted down to it’s core, Adoption now exists as part of God’s plan to heal and restore that which sin has corrupted. Although Jesus is the only way to the Father and eternal life together with God, He uses adoption in this broken, corrupted world as a way to show His love towards us and how He can use us to then show love to hurting families.
First, we see what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! (1 John 3:1) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. (Ephesians 1:3-6)
Second, we can lavish this love on our adopted children as our sons and daughters while introducing them to their heavenly Father. Adoption is a demonstration of the gospel of Jesus Christ in a fallen, corrupted world.
Yes, adoption is expensive, and adoption exists due to the corruption of this world. In the beginning, it was not this way. However, now God adopts people into His family and He desires for children to be adopted into families as a means to heal and restore relationships. If you feel God urging/calling/commanding you to adopt, DO IT! He is gracious and will provide for all your needs as He blesses you in the entire process. There are costs but He has paid it all!
