The beauty of God’s Word is that it is paradoxically both unchangeable and yet new each day. His truths are both timeless and unceasing, as unwavering as our Heavenly Father, and they meet us new each day and in every new circumstance.

I’d love to share some of the verses that have taken on deeper and new meanings through our adoption journey. Still, we wait. We wait for our twin boys to come home from Congo. We wait for Congo to open adoptions back up; we wait for positive news from in-country attorneys; we wait for their homecoming to seem more than an impossible dream. And while we wait, we know the Lord loves them far more than we could ever imagine; He knows their every hair, hope, fear, laughter, and need. He is the same loving and wonderful God that has not only shown himself powerful and wise in our own life, but throughout all ages.

Psalm 136
Give thanks to the Lord for He is good; His steadfast love endures forever. To Him alone who does great wonders–to Him by understanding made the heavens; To Him who divided the red sea in two; it is He who remembered us in our low estate and rescued us from our foes–who gives food to all flesh? Give thanks to the God of Heave, for his steadfast love endures forever.

Ephesians 6
Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. Stand therefore, having fastened the belt of truth, put on the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of readiness, given by the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the sword of the spirit, keep alert with all perseverance, praying at all times in the spirit with prayer and supplication.

Psalm 121
I lift my eyes up to the hills; from where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, maker of Heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right. The sun shall not strike you by day nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all evil; He will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.

Psalm 9
I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart. I will recount all of your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and exult in you–I will sing praise to your name, O Most High. The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, and those who know your name put their trust in you. For you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you. For the needy shall not always be forgotten and the hope of the poor shall not perish forever. Arise, O Lord! Let not man prevail! Let the nations be judged before you. Put hem in fear, O Lord. Let the nations know they are but men. He does not forget the cry of the afflicted.
