Impact of Hard Places on Brain, Biology, Body, Beliefs, and Behavior

Children from “hard places” are impacted in many different ways and in varying degrees by their histories. There are five primary ways children from “hard places” are impacted – we call them the 5 B’s: 

Brain – altered brain development and an overactive amygdala

Biology – altered neurochemistry

Body – altered physical development and impacted ability to process sensory inputs

Beliefs – altered belief systems

Behavior – altered ability to self-regulate in response to stressors
