It has never been a question of “if” we would adopt but more of a “when and where” puzzle for us. We have discussed adopting on and off for a while, but David’s recent travels to Haiti for mission work showed us the pressing needs of orphans today. It also affirmed in us that we are beyond blessed and it is time to pass our blessings on to those who need it most.
We believe as a family that we can offer our children, whether biological or adopted, a Christian home full of opportunity to thrive with the freedom to choose a future for themselves. We want our children to grow up with hearts to serve others. In addition to adopting, we plan to continue our mission work in Haiti with all of our children as they become old enough to serve.
We have always had a heart for children, especially those who do not have parents or a family. We like to think this has a lot to do with why we both chose to become teachers many years ago. The grant through Katelyn’s Fund has allowed us to continue pursuing God’s call on hearts to adopt a child from Haiti despite our modest teaching salaries. The staff has truly shown us they are a community of people who love our son or daughter just as much as we do! They are continually praying for us as well as providing resources and support for a successful journey. We look forward to many years watching all of our children grow into strong Christ followers and continue to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
