Early into our marriage, Makayla began experiencing health issues, and we discovered that having a baby biologically would be very difficult for us. Shortly after that we experienced a miracle with the birth of our daughter in 2016. The years following, we desired to continue to grow our family but went through many years of infertility and loss. At the young age of two, our daughter began asking and praying for a baby brother or sister as well and was excited to become a big sister. We lost 4 babies during those years, and with our last loss in 2021, Makayla lost her ability to become pregnant permanently.
After healing and processing this difficult season, we began to pray for contentment. We sat down one evening and told our daughter that we no longer could become pregnant and that it might be God’s plan for it to be just the three of us. Her response was simply this, “That’s ok, I will pray that God will bring me a brother or sister another way”. It was this unwavering and hopeful statement from our daughter that reignited that spark in us to discuss adoption for our family. So, we began the process of pursuing adoption, and in May of 2023, we got a call from our consultant that we were placed with a mother due with a baby boy in July!
We were beyond thrilled for this opportunity to build a relationship with this birth mom as well as prepare to welcome this child into our family. We welcomed Ezra into our lives that July, and he brings tremendous joy to our home. His smile lights up every room he is in. We are thankful every day for his birth mom’s love and sacrifice. We have spent this last year bonding beautifully as a family of four, and little did we know God wasn’t finished writing our family’s story.
In June of this year, we were met with a surprising phone call from the adoption agency telling us Ezra’s birth mom was pregnant again and due in December! She wanted to know if we would be willing to adopt this baby as well to keep the siblings together. We, of course, said “Yes!” and we truly feel so honored to be chosen again to welcome another precious child to our family. We welcomed Easton this last week and he is truly the missing piece to our family. We are all smitten and overjoyed that God has chosen to bless us through the joy of adoption once again.
The cost of adoption is high, but we took the step in faith that the Lord would guide us and provide for us along the way. Katelyn’s fund has played a part in making it possible for us to adopt this precious baby boy into our family. We are so grateful for the love and support that Katelyn’s Fund has given to our family through this adoption journey.
