I have been hit lately with just how messed up our world is. I have been reminded of the many major problems in our world: news at the gym while running, listening to a college-athlete’s life story, reading Bloodlines by John Piper, or walking down the streets of Chicago. The enormity of the problems we have just in the United States alone is overwhelming. I am not sure how people cope with it (besides just pretending it does not exist) when they do not know the Hope of Jesus.
For me as a believer in Jesus as King of Kings and Savior of the World I do not get crushed underneath the weight of our culture’s problems. Lately I have been reminded (and it has felt so fresh and real) of the hope I have in Jesus. I do not wait for our government to fix the problems. I am not waiting for humanity to change. I am putting my trust in Jesus and believing that He is changing hearts. I am reminded that when a sinner chooses Jesus they are given new life (2 Cor. 5:17). They are freed from their bondage to sin and free to do the good works God created them for (Eph. 2:10). This is my hope. My hope is in Jesus returning to make this fallen world right (Rev. 21). My hope is in His Church being His hands and feet. I believe that His people are praying for heaven to come down to earth (Luke 11:2) and I am seeing glimpses of this all around me.
