Our calling to adopt stems first from the message of the gospel – that we are grafted into God’s family on no merit of our own as a lavish gift of His love for us. It’s always been written on our hearts to pursue adoption as both of our lives are intertwined with friends and family who are walking out experiences from all sides of the adoption triad. After five years of praying for discernment in the Lord’s timing, we took a step forward in the process as an act of obedience after hearing an adoption agency share at our church’s community prayer service. We are overjoyed to now be a waiting family with that same agency and are continuing to surrender this process to the Lord with open hands.
Katelyn’s Fund is playing a crucial role in our adoption journey, and we are so grateful for their generosity and care. Their financial support has been an enormous blessing to our family. Even more so, their genuine desire to support us through prayer and encouragement will forever be a stone of remembrance for our family. In the Lord’s kindness, the board members in our interview left us feeling seen, encouraged, and affirmed. Through our time with them, we were able to experience the heart behind Katelyn’s Fund in a way that will leave a lasting impact on us and our story.
Through seeking out communities where adoptee voices are centered and committing to learn from both positive and negative adoptee experiences, God has kindly allowed us to be pruned and stripped of our naivety that earthly love is always enough in the adoption process. God’s love IS always enough in all situations in that He is the one who can heal, restore, and redeem, but He has been teaching us that it can take more than human love to support children who don’t grow up in their families of origin. God has graciously put people in our lives in this season who have grown our understanding of advocacy and adoption related trauma, and helped equip us to be better parents. We’ve been reminded through conversations, relationships, and in our daily quiet times that God’s ways are higher than ours, He is working in ways we cannot always see and His timing is perfect.
