We were always drawn to the idea of adoption. When we were dating, we discussed it, and it became even more real after we got married. When we struggled with secondary infertility after having our daughter, a desire for adoption grew in our hearts. This sparked some hard but necessary conversations between us as we grieved my health. We talked openly to our daughter about adoption, and she would pray, “Lord, give my mommy a baby in her tummy, or help us adopt.” For her to pray this sweet prayer at such a young age truly softened our hearts.
After much prayer and seeking direction from the Lord, we felt called as a family to adopt. Thus began our long journey of adoption through fostering. After enduring much heartache due to various circumstances, the Lord guided us toward New Life Adoptions, and our journey has progressed much faster than we expected. In March, we welcomed an emergency placement of a sweet newborn baby boy. His birth mother chose us when she was already nine months pregnant. We are grateful that, even though we hadn’t planned to wait this long for a baby, God knew the right timing for our family. Katelyn’s Fund plays a vital role in our adoption journey. Without a community that prays, gives, and supports adoption, families like ours wouldn’t be able to pursue this path. Your generosity blesses us and demonstrates God’s promise to provide for our needs. It also reflects how we, as the Body of Christ, support other believers and contribute to the ministry of caring for orphans.
Since our journey began with foster-to-adopt, we started to learn about the many needs surrounding adoption through the stories of others. We experienced both the challenges and the joys of the process. It became clear that more families are needed to answer the call to adopt or foster. We also made friends in our community who have adopted children, and we’ve heard their beautiful yet sometimes challenging stories. As a result, we have become advocates for the need for more Latino families to consider adoption.
We hope that our story, along with the experiences we have gained from foster care training, will encourage others to explore whether adoption is a part of their journey too. We recognize that only God could be using these circumstances to teach us and prepare us for the beautiful journey of adoption. The way we were chosen so unexpectedly and quickly, with all the details coming together perfectly, makes us acknowledge that it can only be God who unites families. The sweetest part of this process has been the relationship I developed with our son’s birth mother at the hospital. It was only through the Holy Spirit that we were able to form such a quick and unique bond. I pray that this relationship will grow over the years, and that our son will know just how much his birth mother loves him.
