Adoption in the Bible

Posted by on February 28, 2009

How do you think God views adoption? Is it important to Him? Does God view adopted children the same way as biological children? Well…YES! Before we adopted Jaden from China in 2007, I quietly wondered if I could love an adopted child as much as I loved my biological children. I knew many people in the adoption community with both adopted and bio kids, and they all loved their adopted children with all their hearts. Just as they loved thier bio kids. But I still wondered. Would I? Was I different? I discovered a chapter in the Bible that brought me peace and joy in its knowledge…Matthew 1. The geneology of Jesus. You see, Luke shows us the geneology of Jesus through Mary. But Matthew…the geneology of Jesus through…Joseph. Joseph was Jesus’ earthly father…his adopted Dad. Even though Joseph was no blood relation to Jesus, God deemed him so important as to list all of Joseph’s ancestors as Jesus ancestors. It didn’t matter that Jesus wasn’t Joseph’s biological child. He was still Joseph’s son, ancestors and all. Wow. God deems adoption as such a part of His plan, that he picked an adoptive Dad for His Holy Son. And He didn’t stop there! Through Jesus, we are all adopted sons and daughters of the Father himself. Praise the Lord for the miracle of adoption! Oh, and by the way…all those others were right. There was no reason to have concern on my part. Jaden is just as much a part of me as my biological children. And I can’t wait to meet our new adopted kids! Cuz God planned to have them as part of our family since before time began.
